Privitization of a public tradition

In my travels to meet those Colorado girls in Kansas (AKA Girly Trip 2011)...I came across this sign...

I think I was having one of those not-REALLY-concentrating moments because it took me a few minutes of thinking about it and then looking around...to notice this, just under the sign...

Huh!

You know, I haven't had to use a pay phone in at least 15 years...eh...maybe 12...I remember a distinct auto issue that drove me to a pay phone. I've noticed that they aren't available as much anymore...you never see them at gas stations, corner stores or the movie theater anymore. But it was a little shocking to see one RIPPED right out.

And then the directive...PHONE FROM CAR...well I must say...it kinda made me laugh.

It sorta states very plainly for those of us who have been avoiding the technology for our kids..."GET OVER IT...Get 'em a phone, cuz that quarter isn't gonna do them any good."

Yet another memory my kids are NOT going to share with me...digging through the couches and under the car seats for change so they can call their best friend long distance for more than 3 minutes from the phone at the pool. sigh.

Times they are a changin...

See ya around...
